Cross stitch is such a lovely craft for winter evenings, curled up on the sofa. For me, the combination of hand sewing and the guidance of the cross stitch fabric is perfect for an easy, low concentration make…and that means it’s perfect for beginners too.
The pattern uses 14 count Aida but you could use other sizes; you would end up with a different sized finished design so would just need to adapt your hoop size. Or if you are more confident with cross stitch, try an open weave fabric like burlap or evenweave linen.
I don’t have much traditional embroidery thread in my stash so I’ve used Aurifil 12wt which works perfectly for cross stitch projects, and lots of other hand sewing things too.
My example uses Aurifil 12wt 2265 (lobster red) and 2024 (white).
