Patchwork Plaid | January Cushion of the Month

For the past year I have written a monthly tutorial for the fabulous Polka Dot Chair blog; a mix of patchwork, embroidery, and other small projects. With the start of a new year I’ll be starting a new feature… “Pillow [cushion] of the Month”. Each month will share a tutorial to make a quilted pillow/cushion.

To kick off January, I have a simple winter blanket inspired Patchwork Plaid quilted cushion. To make this square cushion I dug into the scrap pile and chose all cool blue ands grey tones to give this a real winter feel. If you don’t want to use scraps then choose three different colours that blend well together so you get the subtle ombre effect. I have used pale grey, turquoise and darker blue. To keep with the winter colour theme you could use three different shades of blue, or three greys.

Or you could choose three contrasting colours; check out my blog post about choosing fabric colours.

Head over to the Polka Dot Chair blog to find the full tutorial with step photos.
