How can it be time for February’s cushion/pillow of the month already? Actually this one is up a bit earlier than usual as I wanted to catch the Valentine’s makers. I love making heart-themed patchwork all year round but I couldn’t let February pass without a special project.
For the second month in a row, I’ve dug into the fabric scraps (thank goodness as I have far too much in there and don’t often make scrappy projects…until now!) and found lots of hot pinks to use with low volumes, although some pinks appear in those low volumes too. If the scrappy look isn’t your thing then you’ll need a fat quarter for the central heart and half a metre is more than enough for the background. I think this design would also look great with the heart in the stand-out colour/s and a more subtle background.
The bold design with central feature and simple background gives you lots of opportunity for different styles of quilting. I’ve used a combination of straight line quilting (echoing the heart shape) on the background and meander motif free motion quilting inside the heart…I even added a few little free motion hearts in there too.
