Jubilee Celebration | May Cushion of the Month

A series of monthly patchwork cushion tutorials in 2022 couldn’t go by without a nod to something very special that’s happening. This year Queen Elizabeth II becomes the first British monarch to celebrate their Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. The Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend takes place in early June with events and activities taking place all over the UK and beyond…which leaves just enough time to make a patchwork Jubilee Celebration cushion!

I’ve chosen to use non-traditional (but still regal!) colours but if you want the full Union Jack vibes then you can swap the purples for deep blues and the golds for bright reds. Whatever colours you choose, this design is a great scrap buster and because it’s made up of only squares and rectangles it’s a quick make too.

I used straight line quilting on this month’s cushion to emphasis the shapes of the flag design. And I picked out some perfectly coordinating thread colours from the new The Platinum Jubilee Collection by Aurifil:
2545 (Medium Purple)
2024 (White)
2140 (Orange Mustard)
